The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme is a program initiated by the Government of Pakistan to provide free laptops to eligible students enrolled in public sector higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country. The scheme aims to promote the use of technology among students, bridge the digital divide, and enhance access to information resources.

The scheme was first launched in 2011 under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, and it has since been continued by subsequent governments. Under the scheme, a total of over 550,000 laptops have been distributed among students, with a focus on higher achieving students from low-income families.

To be eligible for the scheme, students must meet certain criteria, including being enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at a public sector HEI, having achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last academic year, and coming from a low-income family.

The laptops provided under the scheme are equipped with the latest technologies, including high-speed processors, ample storage, and strong graphics capabilities. They also come pre-loaded with a range of educational software, e-books, and other tools aimed at enhancing learning.

Overall, the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme has been widely hailed as a successful initiative in Pakistan, with many students benefiting from the improved access to technology and educational resources it provides.
